Thomas James Unkenholz, age 86, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
Born May 22, 1937, he grew up in the Bronx, NY, and Ocean Beach, Fire Island, NY. He Graduated from The Bronx High School of Science and University of Maryland where he swam competitively. He was the Head Lifeguard in Ocean Beach where he met Lynn. He married Lynn (nee O'Brien) in 1959, they were married for 63 years and had four children.
He had a career in management with the Long Island Lighting Co. and retired to Fernandina Beach. He was a faithful follower of Christ, attended Amelia Baptist Church and was a former elder of First Presbyterian Church of Babylon, NY. Tom enjoyed fishing, especially surf casting, boating, gardening, and beach volleyball. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children: Wendy (Rich), Tom (Stacy), Karl, Craig (Crissy), his grandchildren: Spencer (Liz), Taylor (Kevin), Thomas, Zachary (Jessica), Emily (Alex), Kaylee, Caitlin, Jillian, Christina and his great grandchildren: Penelope, Olive and Indie.
A Celebration of Life Worship Service will be held at Amelia Baptist Church on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 3pm. Rather than flowers, donations may be made to Amelia Baptist Church.
