Timothy Ira Irwin, age 76, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 28, 2025, surrounded by family. Tim was born on February 18, 1949, to Jack and Lorraine Irwin in Bay City, MI. He grew up learning life lessons on the family farm in
Pinconning, MI. There was never a dull moment with he and his brother discovering the land on their beloved horses. From a young age he learned the value of hard work and his entire life always giving 110%. His lists of accomplishments, interests and experiences are read like a resume.
Attending school at Mount Forest and Pinconning High School he participated in extracurricular activities including baseball, basketball, and band. After high school he enlisted in the Army Reserves. Then began a career as a Sprinkler Fitter. He worked with Wolverine Fire Protection and the United Association and Local Union 669 taking him to military bases around the U.S. and Guam. Tim had many interests' including deer hunting at the family cabin in Hale, MI, motorcycle racing, racing horses, running, and playing on men's softball leagues where the infamous Big Tim Champion (BTC) emerged. Some knew him as "coach." He took on the challenge of coaching girls' basketball from middle school to being selected as the Varsity Head coach at Pinconning Highschool. He had an active role in girls' softball; assistant coaching the Pinny Merchants and Pinconning Varsity Highschool teams. He was part of the 1989 State Championship team and included in the Hall of Fame Induction in Bay County. Later in life golf became his sport of choice along with riding his Harley Davidson and spending winters in Florida. Outside of sports he had a knack for fixing and building things. He began a journey of transforming his Michigan home into a beautiful homestead. Transforming a garage into a bar that was filled with stories, memorabilia, and good times. To his picturesque, landscaped yard that earned an award in 2008 for the "Pride of Ownership Award Residential." Most of all Tim loved to dance and he did so often. There was always a good time with him filled with laughs, drinks and adventure.
Surviving to cherish his memory is one daughter, Jodi (Troy) Mitchell; two grandchildren he was extremely proud of Zaiden Mitchell and Zar'ria Mitchell; a special partner Cheryl DeHate; nephew, Travis Irwin; plus, many extended family and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lorraine Irwin, and brother, Terrance Irwin.
A special thank you to the staff at Sheffield Place and Transitions Hospice for the compassion and care provided for Tim and his family.
Honoring Tim's wishes, cremation has taken place; a private family inurnment will be held at Oakwood Mausoleum later. In true Tim fashion he wanted to go out in style. Family and friends are invited to his Celebration of Life on October 19, 2025, at 3:00 pm at The Cheese House,
