Timothy “Tim” J. Oney, 71, East Bethel, MN, passed away on October 30, 2025. He was born June 29, 1954 to Jay and Roberta Oney in Minneapolis, MN.
Tim grew up in Northeast Minneapolis. He attended Vocational High School in Minneapolis, graduating in 1972. He began working for the City of Minneapolis as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He worked there for 31 years before retiring at 52 years old.
Tim met Michelle at the Sun Drive Inn when she almost backed into his beloved Chevelle with her Oldsmobile. He took her for their first date at Nye’s Restaurant. They were married on September 21, 1974 at Holy Cross Church in Northeast Minneapolis. Tim & Michelle had two daughters; Dawn and Amanda.
Outside of work, Tim loved to hunt and spend time at his hunting shack. He coached many sports teams, including football and softball teams at Bottineau Park. Tim spent time at auctions; not to buy things but to socialize with his friends. He loved animals and left behind two horses that he loved, Phoenix and Brandy. His pride and joy was his grandson, Michael. They spent hours playing in the dirt and going to Dairy Queen or eating sherbet.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 51 years, Michelle; daughters, Dawn (Dan) Oney and Amanda (Tim) Oney; grandson, Michael; bonus grandkids, Holly and Lucas; sister-in-law, Pattie (Marshall) Johnson; cousins who were more like siblings, Cindy (Doug) Steeves and Greg (Laurie) Anderson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Roberta Oney; aunt and uncle, Patricia and George Anderson; parents-in-law, Jim and Rose Horn; and brother-in-law, Jim Horn Jr.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home in Fridley. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Morningside Memorial Gardens.
