Timothy Charles Phillips, age 39, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away suddenly at home on April 20, 2025. He was born on January 3, 1986, in Muskegon, Michigan. Tim is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kelley; his mother, Tina Heiss; his grandparents, Harold and Brenda Phillips; and his nephew, Carson Witte. He will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, Kairon and Kagan Phillips; his siblings, Anthony Rance (Elizabeth), Travis Rance-Bolles, Tony Rance, Aaron Witte, Anastasia Gilland (Terry), Breanna Wilson and Nathan Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who cherished him deeply.
Tim dedicated his life to his family and worked in manufacturing, where he showcased his skills in various roles, including welding. A passionate artist at heart, he often shared his love for line drawings with his sons, nurturing their creativity together. He found peace in long walks, which provided a backdrop for meaningful conversations with Kairon and Kagan. Fishing trips to Spring Lake, Michigan, were cherished moments where he created lasting memories with his family.
While Tim was quite introverted, he had a fun-loving spirit that he reserved for those closest to him. His love for the Detroit Lions was well-known, and he frequently engaged in jersey trades with his brother and religiously followed every game. Yet, it was the hidden side of Tim-the gentle, caring man that only a select few had the privilege of witnessing. Friends would occasionally receive videos Kelley sneakily recorded of Tim singing his heart out to 90s boy band songs, capturing moments of joy that revealed a vulnerability he often kept tucked away.
In a selfless act of love, Tim chose to forgo a scholarship to art school after high school to care for his grandmother in her time of need, a testament to his love of family. Though he may not have always shown it openly, he had an innate ability to connect with others, often reaching out to friends for late-night chats and check-ins. He was deeply devoted to Kelley and their sons, carrying on her legacy by helping those around him, whether through fixing things or offering a listening ear.
Tim's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, especially in the laughter and love of his children. A celebration of life will be held on May 10, 2025 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Kentwood Activity Center (355 48th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548). In lieu of flowers, donations for funeral expenses and future care for his two boys can be made to this GoFundMe fund at this link:https://gofund.me/8ffcb9d6.
