He was a character, for sure. He was a great and inspiring teacher and for those of us who were the beneficiaries of his coaching, he left us with a lot of great stories ! RIP.

It's profoundly sad to hear of Mark's passing. He was a "big brother" to so many of us at Lambda Chi. Loved our conversations. He did most or the listening because that's who he was.
I grieve with his wonderful family.

I am finding it difficult to express how saddened I am to learn of the passing of my friend and fraternity brother Mark Tilton.
I first met Mark as a freshman at UNH. Being from out of state he sort of took me under his wing.
Many afternoons playing basketball at the Portsmouth Community Center, occasional (Ok not so occasional) trips to Rockingham Park, (the Rockingham Hotel) I could go on.
What a fabulous career.
My sincere condolences to Sandy and children, and to my special friend Joan.
He's gone too soon.

I have many fond memories of Mark, my cousin and my hero as well. In the late 1950´s, when my family was on a summer vacation in Portsmouth, Mark invited me to watch one of his evening softball games. Mark was about 17 at the time; I was seven. When it came time to leave for the game, I couldn´t find my shoes, so Mark gave me his low-cut white Converse to wear. His sneakers were comically big on me, but boy did I feel big wearing those Converse. Mark played catcher that evening. I don´t remember whether his team won or how many hits Mark got, but I will always remember the thrill of wearing my cousin´s Converse.

To Sandi and the Tilton family, Ruthellen, Jared, and I are so saddened to hear of the passing of Coach Tilton. What an impact Coach made on all who came within his reach be it student-athletes, faculty, or families. The larger-than-life image of Tilton and Golden walking towards me always brought a smile to my face along with a "brace for impact" alarm. A true measurement of our time on this earth is, did you make a positive difference in the lives of people in your daily life?
Coach touched many of us, and we are better because of it. RIP Coach, you will be missed.

Mark was many things to numerous people and anyone who knew him respected him and was inspired by him. But you his family knew him unlike others so while many are deeply saddened by his passing, you are truly the ones sufferi g a great loss. He was larger then life thus had the ability to not only have time for others but his family too. I know it had to be hard at times to share him with so many others but I am extremely grateful for it. I'm sorry I didn't make it back to NH after my abrupt departure but Mark was never forgotten by me nor will he ever be. He choose me working in housekeeping to be in Athletics when nobody thought I could do it. He saw?what others could not and I loved that job and excelled at it. I didn't even know him but he noticed me and knew it would work like a puzzle piece being put together. I guess I just figured he would be around forever as stubborn and hard headed as he could be at times. Life has its own agenda though. Words won't heal your sorrow I know but time dies lessen the anguish and memories will keep him in your hearts and lives everyday. I'm sorry for the husband , father, and grandfather you have lost and my thoughts and sympathy are with you .
