Whelan - Timothy David Whelan, 75, died August 19, 2023, at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Florida. He was born in 1947 in Madrid, Spain, to Patrick Whelan and Madeline Endrich Whelan and grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Karen Thomas, were married almost 50 years. Timothy earned degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He retired from the U.S. Navy after six years active duty and fourteen years in the Navy Reserve. He enjoyed his career as a mainframe computer programmer. He lived in Baker County over 30 years and was an active member of the Baker County Historical Society. Timothy was known for his infectious smile, long hair, and tie-dyed shirts. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dennis Whelan.
Among those he leaves to celebrate his life are: his wife, Karen Thomas; daughters Althea Thomas and Evelyn Salts; grandchildren Braedon Fulton, Alex, Landon, and Madeline Salts; sister Evelyn Whelan Rudolph (Mike); brother Christopher Whelan (Anna); sister-in-law Heide Whelan; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends who became family (you know who you are).
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, the Baker County Historical Society, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V. TODD FERREIRA FUNERAL SERVICES, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL 32063 (904) 259-5700.
