Timothy Allen Young

Timothy Allen Young, 56, passed away March 25, 2024, at his home in Newton, KS after an 11-month battle with cancer.

Tim was born on February 26, 1968, sharing a birthday with his mother, in Wichita, KS to Gerald and Nancy (Ashlock) Young.

Tim graduated from Newton High School in 1986. He received his Associate in Arts at Hutchinson Community College in 1988. After receiving this degree he attended Fort Hays State University. While in Hays, KS he met his future wife Danelle Metcalf. The two of them married on October 10, 1992, in Hays, KS. The couple had two children: Shelbie and Landon. The addition of their two children completed their family. He was an amazing father, grandpa and a loving supportive husband. He was always a good provider for his family always working a "side gig" as he called it, in addition to his full-time job.

He received his Bachelor of Science at Southwestern College in 1998. After the death of his father Gary, he felt called to ministry work. In 2008 he completed his Master of Arts with a major in specialized ministry. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and received their support as he went on to serve as a licensed local pastor for Walton and Buhler UMC from 2005-2008 in the former Kansas West Conference.

He worked at Femco manufacturing in McPherson from 1999-2022 in Accounting, IT, and as HR Manager. In 2022 he made a major shift in his career by changing employment to non profit at Ember Hope in Newton as their HR Manager. He worked passionately at this job and found it extremely rewarding until the end of his life. Even in his last days at home he was still concerned about meetings and things that needed done.

In his younger years he loved singing in the Railaires, golfing with his dad and fishing. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church Praise team as the bass player. He was known for his grilling skills and spent many hours grilling up delicious food. Tim loved Wichita Thunder hockey games, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs. He had a passion for bowling and had bowled two perfect 300 games and an 812 series that he was immensely proud of. He enjoyed a cold Bud Lite and had multiple recipes for his own home brew. He loved his bird feeders and watching the birds. He was an active member of the Sons of the American Legion. You could find him most Friday nights at the Legion with his buds. Tim was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was not pushy but stood solid on his beliefs. He enjoyed using his knowledge of the bible to prove a point when needed.

His most proud achievement in his life were his two children. He was supportive and involved in whatever they chose to do. He coached numerous ball teams and judged debate tournaments. He was also a KSHAA registered softball umpire 2018-2022. It was important to him to be firm yet supportive to the youth to teach them to be respectful and to most importantly to have fun.

Tim is survived by his wife, Danelle; son Landon of Kansas City; and daughter Shelbie (husband Patrick White) of Maize; grandchildren Heidi and Rowan; Mother Nancy Young, Newton; brother Mark Young of Wichita (wife Michelle); Mother in law Donna Metcalf of Nixa, MO; sister in laws Angie Laurin (husband Jeff) of Nixa, MO; Pam Normandin (husband Ivan) of Damar, KS; many nieces and nephews - Valleri, Emily, Nicole, Nathan, Jared, Hayley, Tyler, and 9 great nieces and nephews, a supportive extended family and some of the best friends in the world.

Tim is preceded in death by his father, Gerald (Gary) Young, father-in-law, Danny Metcalf, and nephew Matthew Laurin.

Memorial services will be held Monday, April 15th at 10am at First United Methodist Church, Newton, KS. A graveside service will follow at Restlawn Gardens of Memory.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Newton American Legion or First United Methodist Church, Newton, KS.
