Tom Hanks

Leo Thomas Hanks (Tom), age 90, passed away on May 15, 2025. Tom was born January 10, 1935, in Willard, Kentucky, where he enjoyed the adventures of small-town country life with siblings and lifelong friends, and where he grew in Christian faith. Tom felt the call to pastoral ministry at a young age, and served the Wesleyan Church in Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Ohio. Tom worked tirelessly and with a smile at many jobs, including store clerk, school bus driver, mobile home park manager, and at Environment Control, where he worked for his son from 1991 until his retirement fifteen years later. Tom shared his famous smile everywhere he went and never met a stranger; local establishments knew and welcomed Tom wherever he lived. Tom not only shared his smile, humor, and an encouraging word, but his kind and generous spirit led him to provide for others, even when he himself had little. Tom would never have labeled himself as having little, though, because he felt rich in all ways. Tom is survived by his children, Angela Traugh and Jonathan (Wendy) Hanks; grandchildren, Eric Traugh, Andrea Traugh, Courtney (Brian) Sturgill, Tatum Hanks, Brandon Hanks, and Carly Hanks; great-grandchild, Cambryn Ware; sister, Shirley Seagraves; Mark Traugh, Lisa Conrad; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Darin Hanks; grandson, Solomon Hanks; brothers, C. E. Hanks, Jack B. Hanks, and Howard F. Hanks The family wishes to thank Dottie Langley, Tom's cherished best friend, and the staff and residents at Canal Village, where Tom lived independently for the past twenty years, for creating such a supportive family atmosphere.
