Thomas C. McGowan, age 64, of Berkley, passed away on August 6, 2025. He was born on September 28, 1960, and married the love of his life, Sharon Gandhi, on August 27, 1982, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Royal Oak. Tom and Sharon began their married life in Madison Heights before settling in Berkley, where they raised their family. He worked as a mechanic at local car dealerships and gas stations before becoming a machinist. Later, he owned and operated his own landscaping and snow removal business, serving both commercial and residential customers. Tom was happiest at the family cottage in Baldwin, Michigan, where he loved "tinkering" in the garage, breathing the fresh northern air, and enjoying bonfires with family and friends. He was incredibly social-always striking up conversations, helping others with projects, and making people feel welcome. Known for his generosity, he loved to feed people, especially when grilling on the BBQ. A devoted family man, Tom treasured time with his children and created countless happy memories. He was also a passionate animal lover, affectionately known as the "cat whisperer," and will be missed by his daughter's beloved tabby cat, Aster. Tom enjoyed life's simple pleasures-good friends, Bud Light, laughter, and the joy of being surrounded by those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; proud children, Micky McGowan, Rachel McGowan, and Rebecca McGowan (Zack Mulvin); dear siblings, Joyce McGowan, Rob McGowan, Pat McGowan, and Maryann (Brian) Grau; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Julie Piotrowski. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W. 11 Mile Rd. (4 blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Funeral services will be Thursday, with in-state at St. Mary Catholic Church in Royal Oak at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
