Thomas Gerard Sellers, 67, beloved brother of Joe Sellers, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the Lucas County Health Center in Chariton, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service at the funeral home for a time of continued fellowship. Memorials will be directed by the family to Iowa State University.
Tom was born on October 8, 1957, to Mary Alyce and Harris Sellers in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Tom graduated from Chariton High School in 1976 and from Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Science in 1980. While at Iowa State, Tom served on the Iowa State Livestock Judging Team.
After graduation, Tom returned to the family farm working alongside his parents and brother Joe raising sheep, hogs and cattle. Tom's home is located on land originally settled by his family before the Civil War.
Tom was an active 4-H member and won the National 4-H Sheep Award. He loved travelling with his family throughout the Midwest showing sheep and he won many awards.
Tom served on the Iowa Sheep and Wool Promotion Board and was recognized by the Lucas County Cattlemen Association in the Hall of Fame in 2013.
Tom was known for his inquisitive mind and a great sense of humor. He loved the land, the animals, his life on the farm, and the Iowa State Cyclones. He will be greatly missed.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Tom is survived by his brother, Joe and wife Cindy, step-niece Katie (Austin) Fiala, and numerous cousins. He loved them all.
