Tom Severo

Tom Severo, a longtime resident of Westford, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 15, 2025. He was the doting husband of Maureen J. (Staffier) Severo, with whom he enjoyed 43 years of marriage. He is survived by his sons, Tommy Severo of Westford, and Stephen Severo (and his wife Yuliya Orlova) of Brookline, as well as his daughter, Elaine Trechok (and her husband Jonathan) of New Hampshire. He was The Great and Powerful Umba to Jace and Kaia Trechok and Lucy and Sasha Severo.
Born in The Bronx, Tom was the devoted son of the late Jerry and Lucy (Picarello) Severo, and the beloved son-in-law of the late Robert and Mary (Barron) Staffier.
Tom was raised in Woburn, and grew up especially close to family in a neighborhood that featured both of his paternal uncles. Educated at Northern Essex Community College, Salem State College, and Antioch University, he attained an associates degree, a bachelors degree, and a masters degree.
He was a career educator and soccer coach, having taught English at the Marshall Middle School and numerous classes and shops at Shawsheen Tech, each in Billerica.
In addition to ice cold Coca-Cola, the Celtics, and the Yankees, he loved staying active and involved in the lives of his students, athletes, three children, and four young grandchildren. A Shakespeare aficionado, he always knew the most appropriate quotation for any given situation and his penchant for storytelling entertained family and friends on countless occasions. Tom always believed that, upon someones passing, the best way to honor them was to adopt one of their traits and incorporate it into your own life, ensuring that their memory and spirit lived on.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 9 am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. KINDLY MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in St Josephs Cemetery, Chelmsford. Memorial donations may be made in Toms memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
