Tomasa C. Vela, affectionately known as Tommie, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 88, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born in Weimar, Texas, on March 7, 1937, Tommie's life was a testament to her enduring love, kindness, and friendly nature, which touched everyone she met.
A proud graduate of Ray High School, Tommie furthered her education at Texas Tech University before pursuing her passion for beauty and style as a licensed cosmetologist. Her dedication to her craft brought joy to countless clients over the years, making them not only look but also feel their best.
Tommie's Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through times of joy and sorrow with unwavering grace. Her spirit shone bright in her church community, where she was a beacon of love and support.
Family was the heart of Tommie's world. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Felix Vela, and her cherished youngest son, Felix Vela Jr. Her legacy continues through her loving daughters, Elizabeth V. Narvaez (Johnny) and Velma V. Boatman (Gene), her devoted son, Alfred Vela (Stella), and the many generations that followed. Tommie was the proud matriarch of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life. Her nieces and nephews also held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
An avid gardener, Tommie found solace and pleasure in the tranquility of her garden, nurturing plants with the same tenderness she showed to her family and friends. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful crochet pieces that were both a form of expression and tokens of love for those she held dear. A master of the kitchen, Tommie's baking and cooking were legendary, and her recipes will be treasured and passed down through the generations.
Tommie's presence was a gift to all who knew her. She was the epitome of loving kindness, always ready with a warm smile, a kind word, or a friendly gesture. Her ability to connect with people and make them feel valued was one of the many reasons she will be deeply missed.
As we say goodbye to Tomasa C. Vela, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that make life so precious. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and her spirit will remain a comforting presence. Tommie's impact on the world is immeasurable, and she will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will truly be missed. We love you mom
