Tommie Hayes, 91, of Chesapeake, Virginia joined his family in Heaven on November 9, 2025. He was the last of eight children born to the late Gethro and Repsie Coats Hayes and was husband of the late Rita Henrietta Schoppler Hayes. He is survived by his children, Thomas G. “Tom” Hayes of Key Largo, FL and Teresa H. Watson (Pete) of Blackstone, VA; his grandchildren, Sara M. Cowan (Dan) and William “Rooster” Watson (Sam); five great-grandchildren, Sadie Rose, Ava Grace, William James, Colton Hayes and Emmie Mae; Tommie grew up in Smthfield, NC and graduated from Smithfield High School. He honorably served our country in the US. Army. While stationed in Germany he met his wife Rita. He retired after many years working as a mechanic for Greyhound. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and keeping a nice yard. He will always be remembered as being Opa. The family will receive friends at the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Graveside services will be held 2pm Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria, VA. Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, in charge of arrangements.
