Tommie P. Lumpkin, a beloved soul whose warmth and kindness embraced all who knew her, passed away on October 23, 2025, in her cherished hometown of Oxford, North Carolina. Born on February 3, 1944, Tommie illuminated the lives of many throughout her journey, sharing unyielding love and laughter.
After graduating high school, Tommie embarked on a fulfilling career as a dedicated Pharmacy Technician, where her unwavering sense of duty and care for others was evident. Yet, her truest calling lay not only within her profession but also in the milestones she treasured as a loving wife and mother. She was the epitome of selflessness, known for her generosity—always willingness to give you the shirt off her back.
Tommie's vibrant spirit transcended beyond her work. She was often found square dancing, as she embraced the joyful rhythm of life, dancing with delight in the arms of her beloved husband, James. Memories of Tommie swirl like leaves in the autumn breeze—she loved animals dearly, nurtured her faith with deep devotion in her church, and always found solace and joy in the company of her family and friends.
She was a devotee of country music, often losing herself in the notes as they intertwined with her own joyous memories. Sun-soaked days at the beach brought her peace, while gentle rides through the picturesque countryside on the back of her husband's motorcycle filled her heart with adventure and love. Each experience carved a unique imprint on her spirit, forever encasing her essence in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Tommie now joins her dearest husband, James T. Lumpkin Jr., whose memory she cherished throughout her life, along with her parents Frank T. Pittard and Hettie Talley Pittard. In death, she is reunited with her brother, Bobby Godsey and her dear sisters and their spouses, Elanore and CP Crute, Faye and Bo Crute and Becky, all of whom remain forever in her heart. She is also forever united with her precious grandsons, Matthew and Tony Lumpkin, who were taken far too early in life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and family—in her son, Chris and Sarah Lumpkin, and her daughter Jeanne Arendall. The laughter of her grandchildren, Scott and Amanda Lumpkin, Jason and Kelley Lumpkin and Ryan Lumpkin rings through the hallways of remembrance, and her spirit lives on in her best friend, Stink. Tommie enveloped each family member in a cocoon of affection, fortifying their bonds with memories that will echo for generations to come.
As we gather to celebrate her life on October 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford, NC, we invite you to join us in remembering a woman who brought light into our lives.
