Tommie Eddie McElhaney

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- Tommie Eddie McElhaney, 80, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, at 2:21 a.m. in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Born on February 23, 1945, in Georgia, Tommie was the son of the late Alice McElhaney. He grew up with a strong sense of duty, hard work, and compassion; qualities that would later define both his career and character.

Tommie proudly served in the United States Navy, where he achieved the distinguished rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (HTCM) as a Hull Maintenance Technician. In this vital role, he was entrusted with maintaining the strength, safety, and functionality of naval ships; overseeing metal fabrication, welding, and shipboard repairs essential to keeping vessels mission and combat ready. His expertise ensured that countless ships and their crews could carry out operations safely around the world. Through his mentorship, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence, Tommie earned the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.

Beyond his naval career, Tommie was deeply devoted to his family and those he loved. He was predeceased by his mother, Alice McElhaney, and his beloved wife, Regina McElhaney. He is survived by his son, Justin McElhaney, and his sister, Georgia Malone of Summerville, South Carolina, along with extended family, shipmates, and friends who will cherish his memory.

A burial with full military honors will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, where Tommie will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Miss Regina, with whom he will be reunited once more. This fitting tribute reflects his decades of honorable service and enduring love.
