Juanita Augusta Banks Dixon Spillane, born on January 28, 1940, in the warm embrace of North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 85. Her life was a testament to the power of resilience, love, and family.
Juanita's journey was one of strength and independence. As a police officer at Bridgeport Hospital, she devoted her professional life to service, embodying the bravery and commitment that inspired all who knew her. Outside her work, Juanita found joy in the simple pleasures of life – fishing, visiting casinos, playing poker, and cheering for the Yankees and the Patriots, all while holding a special admiration for Tom Brady's pretty face.
She was an active member of Mt. Aery Baptist Church and the Elks in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where her faith and fellowship were constants, offering support and guidance to her community. Known for her sassy, kind-hearted spirit, Juanita possessed a remarkable resilience and an unwavering dedication to her family. She was an excellent mother who would always be willing to sacrifice for her children, even if it meant her own existence.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Eugene Spillane and her beloved children Christopher Banks and Hulon Dixon, Jr., Juanita leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her surviving children: Alicia Banks Turner (Billy), Reginald Dixon, Vonda Dixon-Boykins (Ordis), and Bridgette Dixon Lewis. Her light also continues to shine through her 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, each touched by her warmth and generosity.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will take place to honor Juanita's vibrant spirit. She will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk, Virginia.
Juanita will forever live in our hearts. She left us with many memories that we will forever cherish. In each moment spent with her, she taught us the true meaning of love, strength, and perseverance. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
