Tommy Ray Plemmons, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home with his son and daughter by his side on July 28, 2025.
He was born on August 2, 1938, in the Beaverdam community of Haywood County. Tommy grew up in West Asheville where attended Lee Edwards High School and worked at his father's service station. He was the son of the late Ray Otis Plemmons and Pauline Sorrells Plemmons.
Tommy earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from NC State University and worked for several years constructing paper mills and other structures throughout the southern states. A proud U.S. Army Veteran, he spent time in Japan and the States working on experimental pipelines.
An avid outdoorsman, Tommy loved being in nature, especially trout fishing and bear hunting. He had a profound love for his dogs, enjoying their companionship during his many adventures. His personality shone brightly, as he was known for his sense of humor, teasing nature, and generous heart.
Tommy was known for his incredible love for his family. He cherished spending time with, and especially hosting cook outs for close friends, his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Tristen Plemmons and son Tracy Plemmons (wife Melissa), granddaughter Cassandra Plemmons, and grandsons Tyler Plemmons (wife Kaitlin), Hunter Bowman (wife Tori), and Cody Bowman. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren: Ada, Payten, Tatum, and Walker, who brought him immense pride and joy. He also shared a significant bond with the late Gary Scott, who was raised alongside him like a brother.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler.
