Chester Thomas (Tommy) Preston passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 after a short battle with Lewy-body dementia.  Tom was born I Salt Lake City, Utah on July 25, 1947.   Tom loved to work, to be productive, and to be reliable everywhere he worked.  He took pride in never missing a day.  He worked at Kennecott Copper Company for an incredible 32 years, retiring in 2002.  Always one to keep working, stay busy, and provide.  He worked several additional years at both the Salt Lake International Airport and Walmart.  He loved making friends wherever he went.  He loved his team at work.

Tommy graduated from Skyline High School in 1965.   In his teens, he was sparing partners at Bullocks Gym on 33rd South with the Fullmer brothers, Gene and Don.   Tommy was a Featherweight Golden Gloves Boxing Champion.  He loved sports of all kinds and shared that passion with his family.  His favorite teams were the University of Utah, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Miami Dolphins.  If his team lost, he was very vocal about the poor, or paid off, officials.   Some of our favorite memories are watching the Utes play live in the Huntsman Center, watching the Dodgers win on TV, and attending spring baseball training as each new year got into swing.

Tom is survived by his wife Karen; three sons Chet (Tiffany), Joe (Jennifer), and Cody (Kristena); and six grandchildren Alex, Brayden, Ethan, Addison, McKenna, and Koleson.

The immediate family will hold a small private funeral service.  Special thanks to the wonderful staff at The Peaks at South Jordan Memory Care who provided Tom with loving care and support the past several months.
