Tommy Joe Roberson was born in Vian, Oklahoma on January 27, 1937 to Tom and Hazel (Pogue) Roberson. He passed away on Wednesday July 30, 2025 in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 88. Tommy is survived by three daughters, Kim Roberson (husband Garrett Backman) of Atlanta, Georgia, Karen Roberson Henderson of Keota, Oklahoma, and Jody Roberson Carson (husband Lynn) of Stilwell, Oklahoma; three granddaughters: Rachel Carson Felice (husband Robert) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Madison Blocker Limbacher (husband Drew), of Houston, Texas; Kristen Carson Salomon (husband Kyle) of Jenks, Oklahoma; seven great-grand children: Nora and Caleb Felice of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Eleanor, Elizabeth and Emily Limbacher of Houston, Texas; Carson and Reese Salomon of Jenks, Oklahoma; and numerous other family members and friends. Tommy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gayle Roberson; one granddaughter Mackenzie Blocker; one brother Bob Roberson; one sister-in-law Anne Roberson; and his parents Tom and Hazel Roberson. Tommy never met a stranger. He loved meeting new people because it meant he got to tell some of his best stories for the first time, and it probably wouldn't be the last time they heard it. Growing up in rural Oklahoma, Tommy worked for everything he had. He wore many hats over the years, he was a teacher, a principal, a drivers education instructor, a cattleman, and a farmer, but farming was his true passion. He could fix anything, and was a true "jack-of-all-trades". Tommy graduated with his Masters in Administration from NSU. He began his teaching career in Cowlington, Oklahoma in a one-room schoolhouse, teaching 1st through 8th grades simultaneously. Tommy retired from teaching after 29 years. Well after retirement, he rounded out his public service by serving on the Keota Public Schools school board. He was a huge supporter of Keota girls' and boys' basketball, and would often attend games both home and away well into his retirement years. Tommy was honored to have the Keota Public Schools 3rd and 4th grade building named after him. His family often referred to him as the hardest worker they knew. Never one to back down from a challenge, he learned to snow ski when he was 60 years old. He loved Mountain Dew and tea with lots of ice and anything Gayle made him to eat, in his opinion she was the best cook around. He was always quick to make a joke, play a prank, or tell a story, and truly enjoyed his family time. He loved his family so much and was so proud of them. To his family, he always encouraged faith, education and hard work. Tommy loved the Lord and gave his life to Christ early in life. He and Gayle served faithfully in the church at First Baptist Church in Keota while they were able. He served as a deacon for many years in the church. While his family mourns his passing, they rejoice in his heavenly home with his beloved wife. Funeral Service will be held at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel. Monday August 4th, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Larry Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Felice, Kyle Saloman, Robert Blocker, Drew Limbacher, Doyle Patton, Cory West. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Bailes, Joe Lynn Carson, Jerry Roberson. Burial will follow at Garland Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
