PFC Tommy Lamar Ward, 76, of Warrenville, SC, entered into rest peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in the comfort of his home. Tommy is now at peace.
A lifelong area resident of Aiken County, SC, he was a son of the late John Henry, Sr. and Thelma Cooper Ward. At seventeen, Tommy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Shortly after leaving Parris Island, he was sent to Vietnam, where he spent one year, six months, and seven days. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his meritorious service. Though Tommy "physically" left Southeast Asia, a part of him remained. Some wounds never heal.
On behalf of a grateful nation, we are thankful for Tommy's dedicated service to his country. Rest well, Marine, Semper Fi.
Tommy loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of the former Piney Heights Baptist Church. He loved spreading the gospel, reading his Bible, and worshipping with fellow believers. His favorite song was How Great Thou Art.
Tommy enjoyed walking "the valley". He also enjoyed carpentry, hunting, and fishing.
Tommy is survived by a brother, Daniel Lamar (Carla) Ward, sister, Betty J. Ward Moody; several nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, three great-great nieces, and three great-great nephews.
Along with his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by siblings, John H. Ward, Jr. and Joyce Hubbard.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2 o'clock in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC, with Veterans Honors rendered by a United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Corey Barton will officiate. PFC. Ward will be escorted to the cemetery by the Patriot Guard Riders. The family respectfully requests that local veterans please come out and honor Tommy.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. (www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org)

Sorry to hear of Tommy´s passing. He was a unique person and will be missed. He and I played chess in high school and he was very good. I reconnected with him later in life when I worked at Langley Drug and I enjoyed laughing and talking with him. Gunn Sawyer
