Tommy Wayne Wood, 79, of the White Plains community entered the more immediate presence of our Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Mr. Wood graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Maryland in 1964 and immediately enlisted into the Air Force as a Data Automation Specialist. Serving as a Sergeant/E-4; he was an Expert Marksman, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
After his military service, Mr. Wood taught computer classes for Pima College and Lambson Business College. Other careers included work with Epps and Schneider Trucking Companies, and then Bellsouth (AT&T).
After retiring Tommy bought a motorcycle and began volunteering with the North Carolina Patriot Guard Riders serving the families of fallen veterans, law enforcement and first responders at their funerals. Tommy met his future wife, Carolynn while serving at one of those missions, where Tommy warned Carolynn, "I don't do love, I'm never getting married again and I'm not having any more kids – I have a motorcycle." She asked him anyway and he said, "Okay." That was in 2016.
In 2021 at the age of 75 Mr. Wood received his Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies from Gardner Webb University, while also adding dozens of original Biblical Poems to his portfolio. When asked what he planned to do with his Diploma he replied, "Teach Sunday School."
Tommy also enjoyed singing and adding his songs to his Tom "Tree" Wood YouTube channel. As a member of the American Legion post 57 in Jacksonville, Alabama and as a member of the American Legion Riders, Mr. Wood continued serving his community and was looking forward to riding his new G.I. Enthusiasts model Harley Davidson in the upcoming Veterans' Day Parade.
Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. He is survived by his wife, Carolynn (Campbell) Wood, and six children, Tucker, Trevor, Tim, Michael, Rebecca, and Meredith. He was a proud grandfather and enjoyed being called, "Papa Tom." His contagious smile, quick wit, and spontaneous quips will be sorely missed by so many.
Military Honors will be rendered at a graveside service at Salisbury National Cemetery Annex, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, North Carolina on 11/20/2025 at 2:30 p.m. Cremation Services of East Alabama is assisting the family.
