Tony Amato passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024. He was 49 years old. He was born in 1975 to his parents, Shirley Darnell Amato and Anthony Thomas Amato, at St Mary's Hospital in Galveston. Tony graduated from Galveston College with an associate's degree in history. He was also a member of the National Honor Society. Tony worked as an ILA clerk at the Port of Galveston. He lived in Galveston his whole life and told us many times that he would never move. Tony was a huge New York Yankee fan, and he traveled to New York at least twice a year. He loved books and collectibles, watches, and his many friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert Amato; grandmother, Helen Amato; mother, Shirley Darnell Amato; and aunt, Helen Gonzales. He is survived by his father, Anthony Amato and his wife, Pamela Amato; his two sisters, Carrie Garza and her husband, Manny Garza, and their children, Blayne Bedard and wife Susan, and Kyra Garza; Kimberly Parker and her husband, John, and their son Jaykob; uncle, John Amato and his wife Lucy; aunt, Sandy Hunter and her husband, Tom; aunt, Penny Barnett; uncle, Robert Gonzales; his cousins: Alan Amato and his wife, Laura, and their children, Alan and Evan Amato; John Amato and his wife, Jaclyn, and their children, Carter, Landon and Hayden; Ryan Wallace and his wife, Tiffany, and their children, Hunter and Brianna; David Wallace; Alisha Amato; Heather Amato; Justin Gonzales; and Taryn Gonzales.
Tony's family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 pm, Friday, October 4, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, in Galveston. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm. There will be no graveside services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice.
