Tony Madden passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after a medical episode on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the age of 56 years. He will be dearly missed by his wife Roxanne; his children Anthony, Sierra and Emma, all of Calgary; two grandsons Liam & Lincoln; his mother Thomasine Madden (nee Dinn) of Sudbury, ON; a sister Jacqueline Labre, of Sudbury; Roxanne's family - the family of Gerald & Diane Deschamps, and many other relatives and friends. The beloved family dog Abigail was a dear companion to Tony, where the deep affection was mutual.

Tony was born in St. John's, NFLD, a place dear to his heart, where his family has been for generations. As a youngster, his parents moved their little family to Capreol, ON, in the greater Sudbury area, where he attended school (proudly embracing many visits to the principal’s office). After High School he worked for CN Rail for many years and then in a local "scrap yard". During those years, he began raising his family and deepened his love of hockey, playing, coaching and ultimately becoming the President of the Capreol Minor Hockey Association. In 2010, circumstances changed and he turned west where he moved to Calgary, AB. He worked in the Oil & Gas industry for a few years until he secured a job with the City of Calgary, where he made many friends and has worked since.

Tony was an enthusiastic individual with a wide range of interests. He found joy in hunting and had a particular affinity for vintage cars, often reminiscing about their beauty and craftsmanship. His love for firefighting jets and the movie "Top Gun" reflected his admiration for thrilling pursuits and heroism.

Marriage to Roxanne was undoubtedly one of the highlights of Tony's life. He cherished Roxanne’s baking, especially her renowned butter tarts, often declaring them to be the best treat anyone could offer. Their bond was strong, built on mutual respect, support, and a shared enjoyment of life's simple pleasures.

Tony was not only a devoted husband but also a proud athlete. He accomplished the remarkable feat of running marathons, inspired by the courageous legacy of Terry Fox. His dedication to fitness was matched by his commitment to giving back to his community, as demonstrated by his role as a coach in the Capreol Minor Hockey Association. He dedicated time and effort to nurturing young athletes, instilling in them not only the skills needed for the game but also the values of teamwork and perseverance.

Tony will be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes, his contagious smile and how he loved his wife and family. He had a dry sense of humour and loved a good joke. He will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Tony at Pierson's Funeral Service (4121 - 17 Avenue SE, Calgary) on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm, with a visitation from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service.
