MR. TRAVIS ORVILLE NELSON began his rest on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Born in
Augusta, GA, and raised in
Wrens, GA, Travis' journey of service and honor began once he graduated from Jefferson County High School in
Louisville, GA with the Class of 1996. As a gifted athlete and a student of history, his passions led him to a distinguished career as a Sergeant in the United States Army.
During his seven years of service as a Combat Engineer, Travis completed deployments to Korea and twice to Iraq. His bravery and commitment were recognized through numerous honors, including two Army Commendation Medals, five Army Achievement Medals, and two Good Conduct Medals. Throughout his time abroad, he remained anchored by the monthly care packages and letters from his beloved mother, Shirley; their bond was a source of great mutual pride.
Travis was a friendly spirit with simple joys; he never met a stranger. Following his military service, he resided in Colorado with his late wife, Nakisha, where they enjoyed the simple beauty of cooking together. Travis was a man of many interests-from fishing and legal dramas to deep conversations with family. In his final year, Travis found peace in studying the Bible, holding onto the hope of a future in Paradise and a reunion with his mother.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Ann Nelson and Johnny Lewis Oliphant, Jr.; his wife, Nakisha Michelle Nelson; his grandmother, Mary E. Nelson; and uncles, Michael Nelson and John Beasley.
