Troy O. Smith, 57, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home in Punta Gorda, surrounded by his family on January 13, 2023.

After graduation, Troy served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December 1989 – August 1994, and he went on to graduate from Howard University in Washington, DC in May 2000, with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy (Cum Laude). Troy was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Healthcare System for over 20 years. His last assignment was at the VA Clinic in Port Charlotte. Florida, as a home-based Occupational Therapist. Troy was never afraid to take on new responsibilities or challenging opportunities.
Troy was a man of impeccable integrity and worked diligently to ensure that veterans under his care, were given the best possible care. Troy valued the sacrifices they made to the United States, thus his obligation to patiently honor and serve them. Troy confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He attended Community Life Center Church, and St. Charles Borromeo Church in Port Charlotte, Florida with his family. Prior to relocating to Florida, Troy attended Greater Mt Calvary Holy Church, in Washington, DC. He was a hands-on father who played an active role in the lives of his children. Weekends were dedicated to family time, visiting parks and museums, bike riding, watching movies, fishing, dining out or simply taking a walk around the neighborhood. Troy was present at school activities and programs and worked with the children to ensure that their homework was complete. Troy always stressed the importance of growing spiritually and cultivating a relationship with the Lord. His favorite scripture was Mathew 28:18- 20.

Condolence to you Ellen. Wish I could be there. I remember I was in my office at Washington Hospital Center one day. Looked in the waiting room and there was Troy. He was there for Occupational Therapy orientation. What a joy to my heart everytime I saw him as well as when I saw both of you. May God's promises and peace be with you Ellen and the boys.

I remember Troy being that Brother figure to a lot of us in our neighborhood. He didn´t hang out and was always striving for excellence. Always had something positive to say to encourage. You fought your fight in this Earthly Realm and made a impact you will be greatly missed Troy
