Troy Duane "Wayne" Sprouse

Mr. Troy Duane "Wayne" Sprouse, age 80, of Helena, Alabama, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 29, 1944, in Panama City, Panama. He attended John Carroll High School and both the University of Alabama and Miami. He spent some of his youth in Panama and Venezuela due to his father working overseas. The family would come to reside in Hueytown, Alabama; although, both his father and mother would continue to live abroad for years.
After school, Wayne worked in many places. He built skyscrapers in New York and Chicago but eventually returned to Alabama to start his own business. He suffered a tragic accident while still a young man with a young family. It would take many years to recover from his injuries, yet he still managed to live a full life and overcame many obstacles and challenges along the way.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Troy "Slim" and Anna Sprouse, brother-in-law and sister Tom and Dollie Hicks who all resided in Hueytown, Alabama.
He was a member of Grace Christian Church in Helena, Alabama. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, writing poetry and art. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path; he was known for his unique sense of humor.
He is survived by a wife of 7 years, Linda Sprouse of Helena, Alabama. Two children from his first marriage Kim Sprouse-Howell (Scott) of Birmingham, Alabama and Tim Sprouse of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a stepson from his current marriage Lindsey "Lyn" Smith (Tina) of Cumming, Georgia as well as three grandchildren Trevor and Connor Howell of Birmingham, Alabama; and Colby Sprouse of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind other family and friends. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
His service will be held at Grace Christian Church 869 Highway 52 Helena, Alabama 35080 on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 3:00pm. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the church.
