Troy Kent (TK) Thornante passed away on January 6, 2025 at the age of 48 after a brief illness. TK was born on March 10, 1976 to Michael and Beverly Thornton, their third son, joining brothers Eric and Wade. Early on, TK joined the Boy Scouts, which he pursued all the way to earning the rank of Eagle Scout. His childhood in Stone Mountain, Ga., was filled with hiking, going to camp at Lutheridge and scouting adventures with his parents.
He graduated from Parkview High School in 1994 and then went on to Berry College. There he majored in Family and Community Sciences and minored in Theatre. He made life-long friends, attended many gatherings at the most notable party house of the era, and met his future wife, Kirsten Hagman Thornante, in the fall of her freshman year in 1997. They were together for the rest of his life.
TK began drumming in middle school. Throughout his life, TK joined a number of bands which played under a variety of names. His prolific drumming eventually spawned TKpalooza, an event featuring back-to-back-to-back sets with three different bands. He felt fortunate to have so many friends who inspired him musically and with whom he enjoyed jamming for decades. In addition to playing music, TK loved live shows and went to many festivals and Phish shows.
TK and Kirsten settled in Woodstock, GA., where they frequently hosted friends for themed gatherings including the Annual July 3 Jager Party even though no one likes Jägermeister. He would warmly welcome friends with his top-notch hugs and smile and provide ongoing entertainment in the form of quips, comebacks and hilarious stories that kept everyone laughing.
TK and Kirsten married in 2011 in a carnival-themed celebration, and they became parents in 2014 with the birth of daughter Camille Amalia Thornante. TK tackled fatherhood with devotion and his trademark humor, happily taking on "girl dad" status. The family took many trips together including many road trips in the southeast, Disney World, Malta, Scotland, Ottawa, Hawaii and most recently France. TK was always up for an adventure with his favorite girls.
The loss of TK leaves a void in the lives of many friends and family. We remember TK as a friend, a musician, a cat dad, a BBQ lover, a craft beer aficionado and a gardener. He was an all-around great guy.
TK was beloved by many, especially Kirsten and Camille. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly, his brothers and their families as well as his mother-in-law Dianne Durante. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael. He leaves behind many friends who were like family to him.
A celebration of TK's life will be held at Frost Chapel at Berry College on Sunday, January 19 at 1pm with a reception to follow.
