Ulysses A. Acasio

Ulysses A. Acasio PhD, 84, retired Assistant Professor, Kansas State University, died peacefully at home, Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Ulysses was born on May 31, 1938, in the Philippines, where he began his lifelong education in Agricultural Engineering. He received his master's degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of the Philippines and became a faculty member of the university. He then went to
Kansas State University Grain Science program to earn his PhD in 1979 and became a faculty member where he was involved with the International Development Programs.
His work focused on post-harvest systems for grains. This was done through USAID and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and spanned a variety of different countries throughout the world.
These include stints in countries such as Central and South America, East and West Africa as well as Southeast Asia and even Kazakhstan wherein he conducted training and oversaw the design of grain storage and post-harvest handling systems.
Ulysses retired in 2001, where he and his wife Luz settled in Sewanee, Tennessee. This allowed him to pursue further passion projects, such as wine making, vegetable growing, chicken husbandry, painting, and to write a manual on Aquaponics. He and Luz relocated back to Kansas in 2017, returning to his beloved home state.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Luz Acasio; son, Erwin Acasio; daughter, Penelope Acasio (Don Silvers); grandchildren, Fayth Acasio, Nathanael Silvers, Adam Silvers, Christian Silvers, and Eden Silvers.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Harry Hynes Hospice and Ascension Via Christi Home Medical team, nurses for their assistance and loving care during his illness as well as the Chaplains who administered his spiritual care which provided consolation and strength for him and the family.
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
