Ulysses McClover SR. was born December 18 1937, to Mr. Henry McClover
and Ms. Louise Perry. He was the eldest of his mother's (12) children:
Eula Mae Walker, Lucille Tukes, Jimmy Jones, Juanita Gooden, Betty
McGriff, Johnny Jones, Robert L. Jones, Arthur Jones (Poncho), George
Jones, Delfina McGriff & Larry Wright. He also had (2) more siblings,
Carole McClover Peters and Joan McClover Manning (deceased) from his
father (Henry McClover)
At a young age he became a Keystone part of his family. Although he was
only a teenager, he made it a priority to take care of his mother (who was
affectionately known as Duke). Not only did he work hard to care for his
mother. He was admired, by his younger siblings as a leader, a father figure
and a hard worker. As a big brother he learned to be very supportive,
protective, responsible and dedicated to his family. Due to his actions
and working ethic he gained the upmost respect from his siblings, and
peers. As time progressed his siblings became older, he began to pursue
his dreams and visions.
He met and married his first wife (Christine Stephens McClover) gaining
(2) bonus kids Corenda Newton Adderley(deceased) and Barry Stephens.
In this union they were blessed with (6) children. Burnita McClover
Trowell (deceased), Reginald McClover Sr., (deceased) Rosalind McClover
Payne, Stanley McClover Sr., Terrance McClover, and Lisa McClover Payne.
He always had a plan and a vision to become an entrepreneur. In the
60's his vision came to life as he became a business owner along with
retaining a full-time job driving for waste management in the city of
Oakland Park before transferring to the city of Fort Lauderdale.
We can remember as children, he had a bar and lounge named The
Yellow Balloon located in Fort Lauderdale, on 19th Street & 29th Ave
(now known as the Blue store, where the laundry mat would have been
located). In addition to this endeavor he had a pool room, convenient
store, and multiple side jobs. Work was a HUGE part of WHO and WHAT he
was. He wasn't complete without it.
In the earlier part of the 60's there was a hurricane, being the man that
he was, he gathered his family together. He included his mother, siblings
(who were still at home with their mother), and his wife and children, to
ensure everyone's safety.
He gathered everyone at the Yellow Balloon to weather the storm. We
had such a good time. It was a memorable time and it will never be
forgotten.
