Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cumberland Valley Funeral Home on Nov. 11, 2025.
Vadis Boggs Stidham, age 91, of
Cumberland, Kentucky, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, leaving behind a legacy of faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Born in Kingscreek, Kentucky, to the late Lloyd and Maggie Foutch Boggs, Vadis spent her entire life rooted in the mountains she loved, serving her community with grace and warmth. Throughout her years, she worked as a waitress at various restaurants across the area, touching countless lives with her wonderful personality and infectious spirit that brought joy to everyone she encountered.
A devoted member of Blair Chapel Church in Blair, Kentucky, Vadis lived her faith boldly and beautifully. She cherished every opportunity to talk about the Lord and could often be heard singing Christian songs with a heart full of praise. Her church family held a special place in her soul, and she embraced her belief in living life to the fullest with gratitude and purpose.
Vadis possessed a remarkable gift for making people laugh and feel at ease in her presence. Her home was filled with the aromas of home cooking, most notably her legendary fluffy biscuits that her daughter Rose will forever treasure. She found deep satisfaction in tending her vegetable garden, knowing that nothing compared to the bounty one could grow with their own hands. In quieter moments, she could be found watching CNN, never shy about sharing her strong opinions on the political landscape, always engaging with the world around her with passion and conviction.
Yet above all earthly accomplishments and pleasures, Vadis often declared that her most honorable achievement in life was being a mother to her beloved daughter, Rose, and her cherished son, Preston. She never took a single day for granted, recognizing with profound humility that she was "blessed beyond the Heavens." This deep gratitude colored every aspect of her life and touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Vadis was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Maggie Foutch Boggs; her husband, Jim Stidham; and her brothers, Verial, Venon, and Burton Boggs.
She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory: her loving daughter and wonderful son-in-law, Rose and Mike Perry; her son, Preston Chappell; and her adored sister, Chelcia Gilliam, devoted brothers, Lloyd Boggs, Jr., and Arnold Boggs. Though their hearts are heavy with grief, they find comfort in knowing that Vadis lived fully, loved deeply, and now rests in eternal peace.
Following her wishes, a private family gathering will be held. In lieu of flowers or acts of condolence, the family requests that you honor Vadis's memory by living each day with the same gratitude, faith, and joy that she embodied so beautifully.
Vadis will be laid to rest in the D.L. Creech Cemetery in
Cumberland, Kentucky, where she will remain forever in the embrace of the mountains she called home.
"Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23
