Val McMinn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ramsey Funeral Home & Crematorium on Dec. 15, 2025.
Val Jeanne Scroggie McMinn, 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Georgetown, Texas on December 11, 2025.

Val Jeanne was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 4, 1952, to Dr. Val Dean Scroggie and Frances Ann Beal Scroggie. She graduated from Pascall High School and attended the University of North Texas. On April 7, 1972, she married her high school sweetheart, Tom "Tommy" McMinn before moving to Georgetown, Texas where they raised their three children, Chris, Becky and Theresa.

Val enjoyed reminiscing about throwing the Fort Worth Star Telegram on the south side of Fort Worth with Tommy in high school. She often reflected that some of her fondest memories were during that time period, including Tommy pledging his love and devotion by giving her friendship ring. The power of that commitment remained evident throughout their life together.

They enjoyed a lifetime of adventures, creating numerous lifelong friends and memories along the way. She had a passion for animals including horses, goats, dogs, cats, and her loyal dog, Gus. Both Tom and Val appreciated music and enjoyed seeing their favorite bands perform live.

Val was a devoted mother, beloved grandmother and committed friend. She showed her family the joy of simple pleasures and the strength found in kindness. She was incredibly strong and resiliently brave when faced with the challenges of the lung-transplant she underwent in 2014. She maintained her signature grace, her compassion, and love of family and friends, but above all she expressed deep gratitude for her life. Val never wavered in her love of Christ and her steadfast desire to fulfill her journey according to His will.

Family and friends will continue to be inspired by Val and the life she lived well beyond her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy McMinn of Georgetown, son, Christopher McMinn of Austin, daughter Rebecca McMinn (Jeff) Cohan of Taylor, Theresa McMinn of Burleson and her beloved grandsons William Smith and Carson Cohan, brother Dr. William Scroggie of Ft. Worth and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Val is preceded in death by her mother, Frances Ann Beal Scroggie, father, Dr. Val Dean Scroggie, sister, Carol Ann Scroggie Neves, and aunt, Betty Jo Beal Smith, and her beloved grandmother "Nanny."

Funeral services will be held at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday December 20 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held December 19 from 6-8 at the Ramsey Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery.
