Valerie Cunningham Cahill, 68, of
Niceville, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, surrounded by her closest family members. Valerie made her graceful journey to Heaven after a life marked by courage, passion, and unwavering strength.
For nearly three decades, Valerie battled and overcame an incurable disease with remarkable resilience and discipline. Her perseverance was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She held herself to the highest standards and encouraged her loved ones to be the best versions of themselves. Valerie's strength was matched only by her love and dedication to her family and friends.
Born on January 12, 1957, in Atlanta, Georgia, to John and Rose Cunningham, Valerie went on to earn a degree in accounting from Berry College and later North Central College. She began her career as an accountant until she leveraged her energy and work ethic into the Real-Estate profession. Valerie lived in Chicago, IL for nearly 35 years before retiring to the panhandle in
Niceville, Florida.
Valerie lived life with enthusiasm and joy. She loved swimming, exercise, reading, dancing, horseback riding, tennis and traveling. She adored her pets and had a deep love for music. Those who knew her best will remember her radiant energy, her laughter, and her unwavering love for her family.
Valerie is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 29 years, Robert "Bob" Cahill; her loving children, John Ryan Strid and his wife Kira, and Ashley Ann Facchini and her husband Michael; and her cherished grandchildren-Ryan (12), Anna (10), Molly (8), Francesca Rose (5), and Enzo (2)-who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Marcelle Rousseau, and brother-in-law, Jean Luc Rousseau.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on November 26, 2025, at Staci's on the Beach, 2996 Scenic Hwy 98, Destin, FL 32541.
A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:00 PM on December 21, 2025, at Shaw's Crab House, 21 E Hubbard St, Chicago, IL 60611.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Valerie's name to the
American Cancer Society, an organization that was important to her.
Valerie's family extends heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support shown throughout the years. She was blessed to be surrounded by so many special friends and loved ones who meant so much to her. Her spirit, love, and strength will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her, and her Joie de vivre will be celebrated for years to come. ---
