Valerie "Val" Thomson

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Valerie Rose "Val" Thomson of Glen Burnie, MD passed away peacefully with family by her side. Beloved mother of Mark R. Thomson and his wife, Janet M. Thomson; grandmother of Jessica Violet Thomson; and sister of George R. and Robert W. Gazell. Val was preceded in death by her parents, George R. and Vera S. Gazell.
Val graduated from Middletown High School class of 1959. She first worked for Public Service Electric and Gas Company, New Jersey from 1959 to 1962 and later worked for Peoples Life Insurance Company until 1964. In May of 1966 she became the mother a baby boy, Mark Ronald Thomson. After 1962, she was a wife, mother and homemaker taking care of her family. She went back to school in 1984 and graduated from the Anne Arundel Community College with a Secretarial Certificate in 1985. She was certified in Gregg Shorthand at 100 words per minute. In 1986 she went to work for the Maryland State Department of Transportation and the Maryland Aviation Administration, Hanover, MD as an Administrative Assistant receiving a "Governor's Citation" from the State of Maryland for 31 years of "Outstanding Service" and then retiring in 2017.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, 1 Second Avenue, SW, ( at Crain Highway ) Glen Burnie, MD 21061 on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 1:00 pm till the start of the Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2:00 pm. Val's Inurnment will be held at a later date privately.
