Valeta N. Parmely went Home and was healed on August 22, 2025. She had lived with Alzheimer's for the past 15 years of her life. Valeta was born on December 20, 1937, in Ottawa, KS, to Clarence and Vada (Howell) Niehaus and was raised on the family farm south of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and her older sister, Jennie Lou.

After high school she attended Emporia State Teacher's College. Upon graduation, she started her teaching career at LeRoy High School. It was in LeRoy that she met her husband, Conrad Parmely. Not hard to do when she was renting a room from his aunt! They were married June 28, 1959. Valeta also taught business at Kincaid High School. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Murphy's Grain Elevator. In 1971 she transitioned to the LeRoy Coop until her retirement in 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Connie, of Leroy; two daughters, Carol (Gary) Nauman of Stoughton WI, and Verla (Steve) Bartholomew of Burlington; four grandchildren, Karl, Clara, and Gracia Nauman, and Jordan Bartholomew.

Valeta was also blessed with a second family these last years of her life. The caring and loving staff of Ruble House and the Overbrook nursing home kept her safe and so well cared for when we could not be there with her.

A graveside service will be scheduled for later. In lieu of a memorial please just make a donation the charity of your choice. Valeta loved helping people when she was able and she supported many charities over her lifetime. It would honor her to have her friends "pay it forward" to help others in need.
