Valoise Meyer Obituary

Valoise “Val” A. Meyer (Miller), age 102 of Appleton joined her heavenly kingdom on January 10, 2026 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home after a brief illness. Val was born on May 8, 1923 to the late Fred and Laura (Kropp) Miller. She was the second of 4 children. Val graduated from New London High School with the class of ’41. She enjoyed her time playing with the school band.

Val married the love of her life, DeForest “Swede” A. Meyer in June of 1941 at the Methodist Church in New London by Pastor Holiday. They were married 68 wonderful years and had two children. Together, they farmed the family homestead for 31 years before moving to Appleton. Then bought the Pine Grove Motel and Restaurant, where Val did all the cooking. They also had 10 acres of Christmas trees that they planted and brought back to Appleton to sell.

In her free time, Val loved traveling, camping, and bowling. Faith was very important in Val’s life. She was the oldest member of St. Matthews Church, where she was a member for 48 years. She also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at her old church in New London. Val was an incredible seamstress and made all of her children’s clothes before they entered high school. Val was a crafty woman and made earrings from shells to sell at different places. She loved her dog, Buffy, and feeding her pet squirrel who always came to the door when Val called him for his treats. More than anything, though, Val loved her family and cherished every moment she spent watching her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids grow up. She was so proud of everyone she helped to raise.

Val will be deeply missed by her daughter, Betty Lou; her grandchildren, Tamara (Bill), Dawn (Dwayne), Becky (Jared), and Jesse (S.O. Annie); 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other extended relatives and several dear friends. She had a special place in her heart for her great-grandkids, Brianna, Amber, Austin, and Adam, and her great-great-grandson, Zeppelin, by whom she was visited frequently.

In heaven, Val rejoins her husband, DeForest; her son, Jerald; her grandson, Travis; her great-grandson, Christopher; and her sisters, Marge, Addie, and Phyllis, and their husbands.

A funeral visitation will be held for Val from 12 – 1 PM on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Highland Memorial Park Star of Hope Chapel, 3131 N. Richmond St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service to follow at 1 PM. Val will be laid to rest with her husband at Highland Memorial Park following the service.

Val’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses and other supporting staff at Oakridge Gardens for helping mom during her time of need. You are deeply appreciated. Also special thanks to Tamara, Bill, and Adam for helping Betty Lou in taking care of Val on a weekly basis when things had to be done.

Mom missed dad so much. Now they’re together again in the arms of their savior. They will be deeply missed by family and friends. Mom, I will love you and miss you every day. Thank you for being the best mom anyone could’ve had and remember, “I love you more!”
