Valrie Duhaney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartwright Funeral Home - Randolph on Dec. 23, 2025.
Valrie Duhaney was born on January 5, 1947, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the daughter of the late Cornelius Gayle and Ida Gayle, nee Miller. Valrie was the fourth of seven siblings. She was the sister of Ferdinand a/k Freddie (deceased), Herbert (deceased), Rose (deceased), Lester (deceased), Joyce, and Marie.
Valrie was educated at Anion Town Public School. She also attended College in Jamaica for two years, concentrating in accounting. Valrie had a strong Christian upbringing. She attended the Anion Town Seventh-day Adventist Church from childhood and was baptized at ten years old. Valrie was very active in her home Church from her Youth. Her faith in GOD continued and grew when she emigrated to the United States.
When Valrie visited the United States in 1970, she attended a House Party on Christmas Eve. It was there Kenneth Duhaney (Chappy), met her, and was attracted to this very beautiful young woman. He promptly told Valrie that she would be his wife, and the rest is history. Valrie and Kenneth (Chappy) were married on June 30,1973. This marriage was blessed by GOD. Yes, Valerie's and Kenneth's love for each other remained strong for over 52 years. They remained faithful and committed to each other, for better or worse, in sickness and in health.
Valrie was a founding member of the Immanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church. Again, Valrie was very active in church, serving as Sabbath School Secretary, Assistant Church Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and last but not least, as the Church's "Gourmet Chef." Valrie loved to cook and bake. She used her culinary skills to demonstrate her love for GOD and His children, by cooking and serving members and friends with some delicious meals, refreshing Sorrel drink, and her famous very tasty Corn Bread. She would serve in the fellowship hall on Sabbaths, on special events, and on church excursions. Valrie was also a talented and creative storyteller. She would compose and deliver her witty and humorous monologues at our Church Concerts.
She worked at Polaroid and several other Corporations in the Accounting Departments and later as a Health Care Worker. Despite the many challenges Valrie faced in life, she was resilient and industrious.
Valrie fell ill this year. She was well cared for at home in the last few months, by her loving, devoted, faithful husband, Kenneth, her kind, compassionate sister, Joyce, and dear nieces Taisha and Keisha. On December 13, 2025, Valrie passed away peacefully at home, with her loving, faithful husband at her side.
Valrie leaves behind her husband Kenneth, (Chappy); sisters, Joyce and Marie; nieces, Taisha, Keisha, Kiki; nephew, David; in-laws, Heral, Lillith, George, Marie, Shirley, Claire and Jennifer; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Thank you, Valrie, for the Christlike Love, you shared with us.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 23rd, at 10:00 AM in the Waymark Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1048 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Randolph.
