Van LaMar Butler (75), passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 11, 1950 in Salt Lake City, the second child of Eldren Lamar and Evelyn Webb Butler.

He was raised in Clearfield, Utah and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1968. After high school he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan. Upon returning from Japan, he studied at Weber State and graduated with a bachelor’s in accounting, graduating in 1975. He then went to law school at the University of Utah, graduating in 1978.

He spent most of his career working for Thomas G. Kimble and Associates as a securities attorney.

Van married Shauna Dean of Midvale on October 5, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised three boys, Grant, Reece, and Ray.

Van loved to ski, bike, hike, travel and camp with his family. He also loved learning about history, geography, geology, and astronomy.

Van valiantly battled multiple sclerosis for 35 years, and showed grace, patience, and resilience in the face of his illness.

In his later years his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Shauna, his sons Grant (Laura), Reece (Julie), and Ray, sisters Marilyn, and Ruth Ann, and his grandchildren Allie, Twila, Peter, Aleen, and Miriam as well as nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Aleen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the Bountiful Utah Orchard Stake Center at 3599 Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Utah at 10:00am. A viewing will be held prior to that from 8:30-9:30am. There will also be a viewing the night before, July 4, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, Bountiful, UT 84010.
