Celebration of Life for Our Beloved Mom, Vasumati V. Bhatt
We invite our family and friends to join us in celebrating the beautiful life of our dear mom, a woman of extraordinary strength, dignity, grace, and love. She was the strongest person we knew. She devoted her life to her family and found her greatest joy in her four grandchildren: Priya Jain, Shreya Jain, Laxmi Deshpande, and Surya Deshpande.
She was born in Raheli, Madhya Pradesh, India, on February 12, 1939, to Mohanlal Pandya and Kalavati Dhagat Pandya. She attended Shakuntla School in Bombay and went on to complete a bachelor's degree in economics and a law degree at Bombay University. She was one of only two women in her graduating law class and was at the top of her class. She also trained in Bharatnatyam at Bhavan's College and carried her love of dance throughout her life.
She was a pioneer who moved to Columbus in 1971 and proudly made it her home. She worked for the State of Ohio for twenty five years. At a time when diversity was not celebrated, she wore her saris and bindis to work with pride. She was a three time cancer survivor and lived her life with courage, dignity, determination, and faith. She was selfless, devoted, spiritual, feminist, and a true trailblazer.
She is survived by her loving partner and husband of fifty five years, Vasudev H. Bhatt. They were everything to each other and shared a life filled with love, respect, and joy. She is also survived by her daughters Vina Jain who is married to Sandip Jain and their daughters Priya and Shreya and Nita Bhatt Deshpande and Keshav Deshpande and their children Laxmi and Surya. She loved her grandchildren deeply and devoted her life to them. She is also survived by her sister Pushpa Pandya and her brothers Pradip and Girish Pandya, as well as many more loving family and friends.
She helped establish the Bharatiya Hindu Temple which became a second home to her and her family and a place she poured her heart into. She was a devoted Hindu who lived the teachings of the Gita every day and inspired all who knew her.
