Velda Templeton

Velda Ames O'Leary Templeton, age 89 of Sturgis, KY peacefully passed from this earthly life and entered the gates of Heaven on March, 30, 2026. Velda was born on July 24, 1936 to the late Percy Franklin Ames and Martha Kean Ames of Dekoven, KY. Velda was the youngest of 14 children and the final survivor.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her 7 brothers, Stanley Ames, Wendell Ames, Kenneth Ames, Kay Ames, Carroll Ames. Wesley "Suz" Ames, and Percy "Pooch" Ames; her 6 sisters, Ruby Lulack, Wanda Lombard, Gloria Dennis, Emma Holland, and Jane Wilke; her husbands, William G. O'Leary and Donald Templeton

Survivors include:

Daughter: Deena Holt and husband Phillip of Madisonville, KY

Son: Dennis "Rip" O'Leary and wife Melissa of Sturgis, KY

Step-Daughters: Sherry Walters and husband Danny of Hazen, AR

Dana Templeton Moore of Hazen, AR

Step-Son: Roger Templeton and wife Ellen of Little Rock, AR

Grandson: Clay Alloway and wife Ally of Henderson, KY

Step-Grandchildren: Aaron Walters, Reid Walters, Caroline Templeton, and

Griffin Templeton all of Arkansas

Great-Grandchildren: Gabby Alloway and Keegan Alloway of Henderson, KY

Step-Great Grandchildren: Presley Templeton and Rowan Touts of Arkansas

A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins

Sister-in-laws: Emma O'Leary Morris and Carolyn O'Leary

The service will be 2PM Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY. Rev. Greg Womack will officiate. The burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. The visitation will be 10AM until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
