Mrs. Velma Cornelison Lyons, 80, widow of Mr. Shirley Darol "S.D." Lyons, passed away on Sunday evening, June 15, 2025.
She was born on December 5, 1944, in Madison County, the daughter of the late Ed & Ola Mae Stevens Cornelison. A life-long resident of Madison County, Mrs. Lyons, and her husband, S.D., were long time residents of the Stringtown Community where they raised their family. Mrs. Lyons was a retired bus driver for the Madison County School System, where she worked for 23 years. She was a Madison Central graduate, a member of the Kit Carson Homemakers Club, a talented seamstress and enjoyed doing needlepoint work as well as spending time with her family. Mrs. Lyons was a long time member of the Westside Baptist Church in Berea.
Survivors include: her children, Sherry Briley (James), and Neville Lyons (Pamlia); six grandchildren, Aaron Briley (Chasity King), Rebecca Caudill (Eric Roberts), Brett Lyons, Allison Lyons (Jay Newcomb), Leea McCrady (Colton), and Michael Lyons; two great-grandchildren, Holley Caudill & Delilah McCrady; a nephew, Kevin Cornelison; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: one sister, Carolyn Cornelison Huehls; one brother, E.C. "Bud" Cornelison; and one nephew, John Sharp.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, with Pastor Allan Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Thursday, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Aaron Briley, Michael Lyons, Greg Snowden, Rich Waite, Donald Wayne Short, Colton McCrady and Brett Lyons.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice Care Plus, 350 Isaacs Ln., Richmond, KY 40475.
