Vera Barker Obituary
Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, Alba.
Mrs. Barker passed away August 17, 2024, in Grand Saline. She was born December 21, 1930, in Van Zandt County, to Jefferson Davis & Vera Jane Sanders Hukill. She was raised in Van Zandt County, and graduated from Grand Saline High School, Class of 1948. She had lived in Ennis for over 50 years, before moving back to Grand Saline about four years ago. Vera was a hoot always making everyone laugh, entertaining them with funny stories, songs, and jokes. She loved her grandchildren and family so much and loved spoiling them with her wonderful banana pudding and chocolate pie. Wheel of Fortune and puzzle books were some of her favorite past times. Vera is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years, Roy "Sonny" Barker; son, Roy Lynn Barker; two sisters, Susie Gray, and Jeffie Huffaker; two brothers, B.R. Hukill, and Johnny Lee Hukill; and grandson, Kevin Ross Barker, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Kevin Ross Barker of Corsicana; three daughters, Denise Dickerson of Ennis, Barbara Brady and husband Ed of Grand Saline, and Carolyn Conn and husband Benny of Ennis; thirteen grandchildren, Tammy, Benny Jr., Larry, Jeff, Lori, Jamie, Amanda, Della, Nathan, Melissa, Joe, Jessica, and Nick; twenty-six great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Larry Moore, Jeff Moore, Nick White, Joe Barker, Nathan Barker, Chance Robertson, Dalton Billings, and William Coburn.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Billings and Bubba Robertson.
The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
