It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Verdell "Verdie" Lee Phillips, a cherished resident of Whitehall, OH, on Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Verdell was born on Thursday, August 5th, 1937, in Columbus, OH.
Verdell's life was a testament to compassion and generosity. She selflessly donated her body to science, ensuring her legacy contributes to the advancement of medical knowledge and the well-being of future generations. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date to celebrate her extraordinary life.
Verdell is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Arnold Phillips. She was the loving mother to her children: Benny Fisher Jr. (Gina), Cathy Patrick (Dwight), Calvin Fisher (Vicky), Cevin Fisher (Carole), and Coletta Vann (Norman). She will be fondly remembered by her sister Mary Jane Loudan, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Emma Carter, her son, Craig Phillips, brothers, Bill and Charles Carter, and sister, Elizabeth Washington.
A proud alumna of East High School and Franklin University, Verdell's diverse career spanned several meaningful roles including service at Children's Hospital, Planned Parenthood as a supervisor, claims representative for Discover card, and as a weight counselor for FormU3.
Verdell was passionate about helping others and spent many years volunteering at a local food pantry. She also had a creative flair and loved designing beautiful floral arrangements in her spare time.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered comfort and support during this time. Thank you for understanding and respecting the family's wishes as we remember our beloved Verdell.
Her legacy of love, selflessness, and dedication to helping others will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
