Verl Cook, a remarkable man known for his dedication, hard work, and love, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born on August 3, 1942, in Provo, Utah, to Floyd Arthur and Mildred Sophia Culmer Cook, Verl grew up with three brothers and one sister on the family farm and dairy in Orem.
Verl attended Lindon Elementary, Pleasant Grove Junior High, and Orem High School, where he played the trumpet in a band. He furthered his education at Brigham Young University, Henagar Business College, and an electronic school in Salt Lake City.
Verl worked at Cloverleaf Dairy, gaining expertise in dairy products and equipment maintenance. He met Londa While in high school, and they married on June 7, 1963.
Even after marrying, Verl continued to assist his father on the family farm and dairy selling milk, fruit, and vegitables. He and Londa established Cook's Farm and Greenhouse, a business that thrived with the help of their children and dedicated workers. Verl retired from US Steel at the age of 42 after working the graveyard shift which enabled him to focus on farming, a lifelong passion.
Verl and Londa were blessed with eight children, thirty-four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Family was incredibly important to Verl, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was also a talented fixer, a skill appreciated by his family.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Verl served in many callings and held leadership roles in the Utah Nursery Professionals, receiving a lifetime award in 2018.
In 2022, due to declining health, Verl moved to Spring Gardens and later to Covington Senior Living where he recieved the care he needed.
Verl is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and granddaughter Shataya Mae Cook. He survived by his loving wife, Londa, their children, Debbie (Lane), Kevin, Brett, Jalanne (Mike), Ryan (Rachel), Tony (Julie), Jeff (Stacey), Katrina, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Verl's life was marked by hard work, resilience, respect, and unwavering love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed and remembered for his remarkable life and lasting impact on family, friends and all those that benifited from his knowledge of growning things.
Funeral services will be held on Monday July 15, 2024 at 11:00am at the White church on Canyon Road located at 4264 N Canyon Road, Provo UT 84604. Viewing will be held on Sunday July 14, 2024 at the Nelson Family Mortuary 4780 N University Ave. Provo, UT 84604 from 6:00-8:00pm and from 9:30-10:30am at the church.
