Rand Johnson Obituary

Rand Lee Johnson, 78, of Provo, Utah, passed away on August 17, 2025, surrounded

by his loving family.

Rand was born on September 18, 1946, in Provo, Utah, to Dick and Donna Johnson.

He was the oldest in his family and is survived by his siblings, Mark (Kathleen), Scot

(Lori), and Joani Smith (Ty). Rand and his family were very close and enjoyed many

outdoor adventures together.

Rand attended high school at B.Y. High and participated in many extracurricular

activities, including drama, track, diving, and basketball.

After graduating from B.Y. High, Rand joined the United States Army and found himself

in Fort Polk, Louisiana, within days of his graduation. Rand became a squad leader and

loved sharing his army stories, especially the pranks he pulled. He was able to take a

two-year deferment from his military service to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus

Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the New England Mission under Mission President Boyd

K. Packer. When he returned from his mission, he continued his military service while

attending Brigham Young University.

While at Brigham Young University, he met the love of his life, Evelyn Stiborek, while

both were serving in student government. After establishing a friendship with Evelyn,

Rand turned on the charm and asked her to marry him after just four dates! She jumped

at the opportunity to lock down that tall drink of water. Rand loved to share the story of

how he never actually got a "yes" from Evelyn, but that her response of, "I guess that'd

be alright," was all he needed.

Early in their marriage, they spent their summers in Las Vegas where Rand's claim to

fame was that he married hundreds of couples while working as a Commissioner of

Marriage. He graduated from BYU in 1972 with a B.S. in Zoology.

Rand started his sales career selling suits for ZCMI but quickly transitioned to real

estate and began selling for Century 21.

Rand and Evelyn sold real estate for Century 21 until starting their own business called

"Rand Realty," later renamed to "Johnson Realty," which still continues today. Rand

became an appraiser, and he and Evelyn worked together for the rest of his life.

Rand and Evelyn started their family in 1970 with the birth of their first child, Elizabeth.

Over the next 17 years, they added five additional children: Cameron, Aimee, Erin,

Brooke, and Blake.

Rand's children and grandchildren would become the biggest joy and focus for him

during his life. It didn't matter if it was pageants or sporting events, Rand delighted in

learning all he could about his kids' activities and finding ways to support them. From

practicing interview questions, to keeping stats and yelling at referees, he was fully

committed to helping his kids and grandkids achieve success.

Rand's dedication to family continued on to his grandchildren, and he had 18 grandkids

to keep him busy and invested. His first grandchild, Jesse Craig, dubbed him "Paca"

and the name stuck. He loved spending time with his grandkids and being the best

"Paca."

Rand had many interests over the years. He was an avid reader and was always ready

to share his knowledge with others. He was a dedicated follower of Christ and studied

the scriptures throughout his life. He enjoyed attending the Shakespearean Festival and

watching musicals. He had many interests, including astronomy, woodworking,

camping, water and snow skiing, and politics.

Rand's life can be summed up as one of service. Aside from his dedication to his wife

and children, he was in the constant service of others. His church service included

being a teacher, Scoutmaster, Stake Young Men's President, High-councilman, and

Bishop. He was an excellent and creative cook, and his Dutch-oven peach-pear cobbler

was the best around.

Rand is survived by his wife, Evelyn, and posterity: Elizabeth (Steve), Jesse (Tyson),

Ally (Hoss), Rachel, Matt, and Jake Craig; Cameron, Shea, and Chase Johnson; Nick,

Cole, Carter, and Connor Wolsey; Erin, Maddie, Nikki, Lexie, Jacob, and David Webb;

Brooke Johnson; and Blake (Shantae), Kaylee, Addilynn, and Lydia Johnson. We are

positive that Rand had a joyful reunion with his parents and that his daughter, Aimee,

threw a huge party for him when he arrived.
