Vernal Laverne Peugh,84, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Born on November 5, 1938, in Cherryvale, Kansas, to Joseph and Amy (Brown) Peugh.
Vernal was united in marriage to Mamie Ann Wilson on February 23, 1976, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives at their home.
Vernal served as the Superintendent at the Water Plant for the city of Cherryvale, from which he retired in 2002. Additionally, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
Vernal was an avid enthusiast of birds, especially homing pigeons, and he often spent time engaging in his craftwork and enjoying moments in his garage.
He shared his life with his cherished wife, Mamie Ann (Wilson) Peugh, who resides in their home. Together they raised a loving family, including their children: Samuel Peugh of Cherryvale, KS; Tim Peugh of Wichita, KS; William Peugh of Colorado; Sharon Peugh of Wichita, KS; Virgil Peugh of Wichita, KS; Ella Haupt of Independence, KS; Darla Shields of Indiana; and Syvilla Peugh of Cherryvale, KS. Vernal's legacy will also live on through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including his siblings Forrest Peugh, Patricia Eli, and Freda Tabor, all of whom reside in Cherryvale.
Vernal is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amy (Brown) Peugh, and his sons, David Peugh, Raymond Philpott, and Johnny Philpott.
A visitation will be held in Vernal's honor on Thursday, June 26, 2025, starting at 5:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale, Kansas.
