Verneita Gayle Smith Cornes, age 70, died Friday, January 3, 2025 at her home.

Born in Paducah, KY on July 26, 1954 to the late Horace “Pete” Smith and Virginia O’Daniel Roberts. She is preceded in death by her parents, son; William Cornes and brother; William Smith.

A member of Scottsville First United Methodist Church, she dedicated her life to her husband and family, especially enjoying her kid’s and grandkid’s activities, including softball, baseball and band. She worked for years with Meals on Wheels in Paducah, KY and Springfield, TN and was a case manager for senior citizens in Port St. Joe, FL and also volunteered with multiple organizations and facilities to help the elderly and those in need.

She is survived by her husband; Willis C. Cornes, son; Brian Cornes, daughter; Angelia Hagan (Isaac), nine grandchildren; Shayla Smith (Chris), Jason Barley, Sean Rader, Kaitlyn Cornes, and William “Ike” Hagan, several great grandchildren and several sibling; Leona Freeman and Dennis Smith.

There have been no public services planned at this time.
