It is with deep sorrow that the family of Vernell Sanders Wacker announces her passing on November 24, 2024, at the age of 87. Vernell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Christian Care in Bolivar, TN.
Vernell was born on January 16, 1937, in Hornsby, TN, to the late William and Mary Myrtle Sanders. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a cherished member of the Hornsby community. Throughout her life, Vernell’s greatest joy came from her family, and she was known for her warm heart, unwavering kindness, and devotion to her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Vernell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Wacker, her brothers, Billy Joe Sanders, Lucille Pierce, and Curtis Sanders. She is survived by her sister, Eloise Poole of Bolivar; her two sons, Richard Doyle (Denise) of Chewalla, TN and Bobby Doyle (Sheila) of Hornsby; grandchildren, Heath Doyle, Heather Schutte (Nick), Matt Doyle (Rebecca), Logan Doyle (Sara), Mary Kate Newman (Logan), Holly Uttal (Brent); and great-grandchildren, Dawson, Oliver, Avalynn, Andi Ann, Tempie, Tristan, Norah, Callan, and Beckett. She is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Vernell had many passions that enriched her life with the most important being her family. She loved spending time in her garden, cultivating beauty, especially her knock-out roses, and sharing the fruits of her labor with others. Traveling was another great joy of hers, whether it was relaxing by the beach or exploring the mountains. She found peace in both settings. Vernell also enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family at Hornsby Baptist Church, where she built lifelong friendships and found spiritual support. In the kitchen, Vernell enjoyed baking and cooking, always ready to share a delicious meal or treat with those she loved. She was known by many and truly never met a stranger. She loved shopping and was always up for any spontaneous adventure.
A celebration of Vernell's life will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Hornsby Baptist Church with visitation from 10am - 1pm and services following at 1pm. All are welcome to join the family in remembering and honoring her memory.
Vernell will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her love and kindness. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the Hornsby Baptist Church.
