John V. Anderson, beloved father and grandfather, passed into the arms of our Savior, Jesus, on All Saints Sunday, November 2, 2025 in Brentwood, Tennessee. John was born in Cloverport, Tennessee on December 6, 1934 to the late John Vernice Anderson, Sr. and Frances Sharp Anderson. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Frank Anderson of Bolivar, TN and his sister, Daisy Anderson of Gatlinburg, TN. and Bolivar. He is survived by his brother Joe Anderson of Bolivar. John lived in Hardeman county most of his life, in Bolivar and Cloverport.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 69 years, Susan Cole Anderson. They married in August 1955 and soon moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee together. That fall, he began his third year at UTK, majoring in Agriculture, but in the spring of that school year, family obligations brought them home to Bolivar. John is survived by their four children, Ellen Anderson of Jasper, TN., Sarah Kilgore (Ben) of Franklin, TN., Laura Pewitt (Brent) of Shelbyville, TN., and Mark Anderson (Becky) of Jackson, TN. John and Susan had nine grandchildren and twelve greatgrandchildren. His grandchildren are Joy Davis Mullis (Eric) of Charlotte, NC., Rebecca Greer (Steve) of Chattanooga, TN., Julianna Rochelle (Clay) of Spring Hill, TN., Cole Kilgore (Jennifer) of Thompson's Station, TN., Mathias Anderson (Alison) of Smithville, TN., Myles Anderson (Samantha) of Columbia, TN., Grace Foster (Hayden) of Murfreesboro, TN., Sam Anderson of Jackson, TN., and Susan Hunt (Aden) of Wheaton, Ill. His great-grandchildren are Margaret and Anna Greer, Ethan Mullis, James and Ella Kilgore, Severin, Elsie and Emmie Kate Anderson, Tucker and Collin Anderson and Zac and Lila Rochelle.
John was a man of strong and deep faith. He was the youngest Elder ordained in the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian church at the age of 25. He served his church in this capacity for many years. He and Susan were most recently members of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, TN.
John served his community as a City Councilman and was active in Rotary Club. He served on the Board of Directors for Merchant and Planters Bank for many years. He was a buyer and salesman for Anderson Tractor Company for twenty years. John was a successful farmer, expanding his grain farm to continue his family's legacy and achieving the designation of Century Farm in recent years. He was recognized for his leadership and service to the Hardeman County Soil Conservation District. He served on both the Tennessee Soybean Association and the American Soybean Association, representing Tennessee. He put in the first center pivot irrigation system in the area and was one of the first farmers in Hardeman County to practice the no-till method of planting. He won the state soybean yield contest and with it, a trip to Europe promoting soybeans. He earned the Woodsman Coat of Arms Forest Management Award for reforesting, professionalism and harvesting. John was a true outdoorsman who loved not only farming, but hunting and flying. He enjoyed a lifelong love of flying, earning his pilot's license as a young man. He learned to fly over the skies of Cloverport as a teenager and had many adventures while flying for most of his life. He loved the Tennessee Vols and enjoyed many a UT game with family and friends. But of all the places he travelled, he was always most happy to return home to his beloved hamlet of Cloverport and watch a beautiful sunset from his front porch. John will be greatly missed by his loving family.
