Vernon Maxey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on May 4, 2023.
Vernon Paul Maxey, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 30, 2023, at the age of 86. He was born on December 4, 1936, in Garber, Oklahoma, to Cecil P. & Lova (Gracy) Maxey.
Vernon was a very hard worker and worked in the automotive paint and body industry. He kept his yard immaculate. Vernon was a kind man and was always in a good mood. In his younger years, Vernon participated in rodeo events as a bull rider as well as a bare-back rider. He was the steer wrestling World Champion in 1968 and was very proud of this accomplishment. Vernon was a jack-of-all trades and could fix anything. He loved watching his daughter barrel race and his son-in-law, Kendall was a steer wrestler. He loved watching the kids play and Mac's boys play sports. Vernon loved watching old westerns, and his favorite tv shows were Gunsmoke and Bonanza. He loved to fish and spend time at Arbuckle Lake and at his daughter's pond on her farm. Vernon enjoyed smoking meat for the entire neighborhood. He had such a compassionate heart and would help anywhere he could such as shoveling snow and many other acts of kindness. Vernon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, 3 daughters, Kim Bolding and husband, Kendall, Kelly Kastner and her husband and family, and Terri Long and her husband and family; 1 sister, Fern Bowman and her family; 1 brother, "Shorty" Maxey and his wife and family; as well as many other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn Maxey; and his parents, Cecil & Lova Maxey.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am-8:00pm, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services for Vernon will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., in Norman, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel.
