Vernon Howard Powell

Vernon Howard Powell, age 78, of Downingtown, PA passed away on January 18, 2026 at Paoli Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 32 years to Karla Marie (nee Steffen) Powell and the loving father of Austin Lewis Powell. Born on January 21, 1947 in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Jordan Powell and the late Mildred (nee Kaunike) Powell.

Vernon was an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Navy Seabees who proudly, honorably, and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He was also a self-employed Master Carpenter for many years working primarily on the Main Line. Vernon was also very heavily involved for many years as well with The Boy Scouts of America Troop #52 of Marshallton as an Assistant Scout Master who helped many young men attain the rank of Eagle Scout, which was something that he took a great deal of pride in. He was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan and he really enjoyed bird watching, spending time outdoors, and gardening.

In addition to his wife and son, Vernon is also survived by his siblings; Jordan "Jerry" Powell (Nancy), James Powell (Trudy), John Powell (Tanya) and Kathleen Powell, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Vernon's life to be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 1060 West Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320. The family will receive friends from 10:00 -11:30 AM, which will be followed by his Life Celebration Service starting at 11:30 AM, concluded by Military Funeral Honors rendered by The United States Navy.

The family has respectfully requested that all flowers be omitted, and that those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution in Vernon's name and memory to The Boy Scouts of America Troop #52, PO Box 46, Downingtown, PA 19335 and which would be deeply appreciated by his family.
